Geese--those migratory wonders

Yesterday I shared my love of snow. Today I want to share my awe of geese. Yes, geese.
I don't know why, but this year I have noticed the geese migrating more than in past years. In the past week or two, everytime we look up at the sky, we see lines of them. Maybe their flight patterns have shifted, I don't know. But there have been literally hundreds of them.

Have you ever really watched geese fly? It occurred to me a few days ago that geese flying is art in motion. It is really fun to watch their lines change shapes right before your eyes. And as I watch the geese, I am reminded again of God's creativity and love of beauty. He could have created them to just fly south as a means of survival. He could have created them to fly in a straight line on their journey. But He didn't. In His infinite wisdom, God created the geese to work together in an ever-changing flight pattern so that no one goose bears the load of being the "lead-goose" and tires itself out. The result is an incredible sight and so fun to watch if we just take the time to enjoy. I believe that nature is one of God's gifts to mankind. And if we look closely, we can see Him in everything that surrounds us.

But we HAVE to look closely--we must slow down and look. He's there all around us.

So, how 'bout it? Try it. Look up...watch the geese fly. Then, worship God for His creation!

Snow Days mean Snow Play!!

I LOVE snow days! I love waking up to several inches of freshly fallen snow covering the backyard like a soft, white blanket. It is so fresh and clean. I'm so glad God decided to add snow to His Creation! I'm so glad we can enjoy it along with Him. When I looked out the patio door yesterday morning and saw the thick blanket of snow, I was reminded of the Scripture "wash me and I will be whiter than snow." (Ps. 51:7) When we accept Christ, He tells us that our lives will be whiter than the beautiful, clean, fresh snow in my yard this morning. It is so beautiful and white that I can't imagine being whiter than that. But God says that is how pure and clean we are! Yes, I love snow days!

Snow days... When your kids are in school, snow days mean having them home all day--bored with nothing to do; they mean you have to rearrange your schedule, maybe find childcare for your children; snow days can be a hassle. BUT when your kids are homeschooled, snow days take on a whole new meaning! We LOVE snow days!!. To us snow days mean this: we work diligently all morning to get our school work completed so we can meet up with other friends in the afternoon for a day of SNOW PLAY. Sledding. Snowball fights. Sipping hot chocolate from a thermos. Building snow ramps. Snowmen. Snow angels. Snow cream.

How many inches of snow did we receive on Monday and Tuesday? At least six, I'm guessing. We have spent the past two afternoons out at the LEVY (our not-so-secret-anymore sledding place). It has been so much fun that we had to drag the kids to the car when it was time to go. We had over 20 kids and a handful of parents out there each day. What fun!

Tomorrow we are headed to The Farm to play on the ice, sled with the horses, and more snow play!

Yes, I love snow days! (Oh, and I love when my brother-in-law comes over and plows the driveway for us so we can get out and enjoy our snow days even more.) ;-)

Let the blogging begin.....

I haven't blogged for over a year and a half. The last blog was to share our adoption trip with family and friends (www.xanga.com/mcwhorter6). However, as 2008 ended, I felt that I needed and even wanted to journal again--to have written documentation of my daily thoughts, feelings, and happenings.

So, here I am. As I have pondered the title and purpose of this blog, one thing stood out that I wanted to convey. It is the role God's Grace has played in my life--my life as a whole as well as the daily ins and outs of my life.

I hope as I begin to share on this blog that I am able to share in such a way that will bring honor and glory to the name of Christ. My life is not perfect--my house gets messy, I holler at my children from time to time, I don't always act kindly to my husband, and sometimes I drop the ball on my responsibilities. No, I'm NOT perfect--of this I'm acutely aware, but I DO live for an awesome, loving and perfect God. I begin each day desiring to live in a way that is pleasing to Him.

So, on that note, let the blogging begin....
